I built this business because I know what it means to work hard for something, and I bring that same energy to yours.
HI, I’M CAROLYN
I'm a Virtual Executive Assistant and the founder of The Virtual Avenue. I work with small business owners and solopreneurs, locally in South Africa and internationally, who are brilliant at what they do, but stretched too thin to do it all.
If you've landed here, you're probably juggling more than you should be. I'm here to change that.
WHERE I COME FROM
I've never taken a single opportunity for granted. Here's why.
I grew up in a home where basic necessities weren't guaranteed. There were weeks without running water or electricity. Cheese was a luxury. From a young age, I understood that if I wanted something different for my life, I would have to build it myself.
So I did.
I started earning my own money at 11 years old by washing my parent’s friends’ cars for pocket money. That was the beginning of a work ethic I've never switched off. Through school, I worked. Through university, I worked two jobs simultaneously: waitressing, and an admin role at Spec-Savers, where I managed appointments, coordinated with medical aids, handled customer queries, and kept things running smoothly day to day.
At the same time, I was completing a BBA degree in Brand Building and Management - studying everything from economics and finance to creative development, research, and brand strategy.
I wasn't just learning about business. I was living it.
HOW I FOUND THIS WORK
I didn't plan to become a Virtual Executive Assistant. But I can't imagine doing anything else.
Just before the pandemic, I stumbled into VA work through an internship. I didn't know exactly what to expect, only that it would involve a little bit of everything. What I discovered was something far more meaningful: I was helping real people build the businesses they'd dreamed of, by clearing the path in front of them.
I loved the variety. I loved the learning. And more than anything, I loved the impact.
Every time a client told me they finally felt supported - that they could breathe again, take a day off, or focus on the parts of their business they actually loved - I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
That feeling has never gone away.
HOW I WORK
I don't just get things done. I think about why they matter.
What I hear most from clients isn't that I completed their tasks - it's that I went further than they expected. That I asked the right questions. That I understood their vision and built on it, rather than just executing instructions.
I've been told I often know what clients need before they've said it themselves. I take that seriously. It comes from being genuinely attentive - to the work, to the person, and to the bigger picture they're working toward.
I also believe there's an art to the client relationship. I bring warmth and personal connection to every working partnership, without it ever becoming unprofessional. Many of my clients have become long-term collaborators, and that continuity matters. It means I understand their business deeply, and that depth shows in everything I do.
I set clear deadlines. I communicate proactively. And I treat every business I work with as if it were my own - because that's a promise I made from the beginning, and one I've kept.
WHAT I STAND FOR
I don't just get things done. I think about why they matter.
Reliability: You're trusting me with something you've poured yourself into. I don't take that lightly. You'll always know where things stand.
Integrity: I only take on work I know I can do well. If I'm not the right fit for what you need, I'll tell you honestly.
Quality: I don't do average. Whether it's a newsletter or a complex project, I bring the same level of care to everything.
Heart: This isn't just a job to me. I genuinely want to see your business grow, and I'll show up for it like it's my own.
